OAKDALE, NY — Emergency service officers rescued a lucky kitten from a car's wheel well in Oakdale over the weekend, Suffolk County police told Patch.

Officers responded to eastbound Sunrise Highway in Oakdale around 7:50 p.m. on Saturday after a motorist reported a kitten stuck in the vehicle’s wheel well, police said.

Police said highway patrol officers blocked the left lane of Sunrise Highway as emergency service officers "rescued the scared kitten."

In a statement on social media, Suffolk County police said:

"This kitten used one of its nine lives last night but thanks to the efforts of Suffolk County Police officers the feline is safe.

"Fortunately, the seven-week-old kitten appears to be in good health, receiving only minor injuries to its tail."

Police said the kitten is now in the care of John Debacker, vice president at Long Island Cat/Kitten Solution. He was not immediately available for comment.
